The Biggest Leap

08/06/2024

This is without a doubt the biggest and least practical goal I have set for myself. Recycling or upcycling electronics is a daunting task. It requires knowlege on components, software damn near everything. I am determined to continue this path but who knows how long it will take or how effective I can really be.

I will be starting very simply by getting a collection of out dated computers and installing super lightweight operating systems on them. I hope to try and make a traveling computer lab that offers wifi and assistance to unhoused communities that need help getting documents or filing applications. This is not too hard but will require some experimentation.

While doing that I will be learning simple circuts and hardware. I just bought my first kits from Adafruit and have been learning a lot about micro controlers. I have a projects for my aunts car company making spooky eyes for the car that will watch patrons walking by at their Haloween car shows. I will write about my expierience with this and share what I learn along the way.

I also bought their Memento camera kit to learn about circut python. The Memento is a very cool camera that is fully programable. I will learn alot about working with displays, cameras, data and memory. The Memento's quality is pretty low and creates an estetic that I like and want to develop further.

While this is a monumental task for me i need to remember that the end goal is actually quite simple. KEEP THINGS OUT OF A LANDFILL. If I can develop these skills and offer services to my community, participate in a repair cafe, or just make sure that my friends and neighbors electronics end up at a recycling center then i am doing a good job.
